It's NaNoWriMo Time Again!

Are you in?

Only 13 days left to prep...

(If you don't know what NaNoWriMo is,follow the link to learn more...

Lingering Shadows will be a book of short stories based on research from Mary Carol Miller's Lost Mansions of Mississippi Volume II. of course, the details from my notes will be comingled, and all of the names and places will be fictitious.

I've always been fascinated with the architecture of these beautiful homes although not with the lifestyle they represented. These magnificent walls housed families with secrets and tragic histories.

Those families which survived the Civil War often found themselves in much-reduced circumstances, The houses which survived were often abandoned. Some were reclaimed and restored and continue to delight touring history buffs. Others were left to the elements to rot and eventually burned or were demolished.

But if walls could talk...and that's what these stories will recount.

If you're a NaNo-er, let's buddy up for the 2022 marathon.

You'll find me as "GoodCleanRead" on the site..

And if you're in the Hot Springs AR area, maybe we can meet for a write-in!

NaNoWriMo Journal 2022

October 22

These terrific books by Mary Carol Miller have been my inspiration for this year's NaNoWriMo project. I had Volume 2 and finally managed to find Volume 1 at a reasonable price (it looks brand new!). Yesterday was reading day...note-taking today. Now the additional notes are typed and stowed in the project notebook. Story ideas are listed, but tomorrow I hope to start doing more in-depth "sketches"--deciding on old family names, relationships, backgrounds, etc. Eight days to go before I can type the first word of the first sentence of the first story...

October 30

Notes done, notebook organized, ready to put the paws on the keyboard on November 1! If you're not there yet, maybe the following will inspire you..or not...

“T’was the day before NaNo

And all through the house

The only creature stirring

Was the Nano Mouse!

She hurried and scurried

And finished her notes;

She cleared her calendar

And packed her totes

With laptop and notebook

And rechecked her goal…

Only 50K words

To stay out of the hole!

Last trip to the grocery,

The pantry she packs,

With food for the journey

And plenty of snacks!

A “Do Not Disturb” sign

She hangs on her door…

Those words must be written,

50K…maybe more.

Paws over the keyboard…

The clock strikes the hour…

It’s 12:01 now…

She pounces with power!

Why does she do it?

The challenge, you see…

Can I write all those words?

Will a winner be me?

So on, all you WriMos!

Prepare for the best!

Only thirty more days

Until you can rest!
